KC Wave is one of 40 teams belonging to the International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA) Association, sharing the mission to promote participation in aquatic sports among lesbians, gay men, and their friends in the community. Our team still abides by IGLA's high standards of aquatic competitions, including the Gay Games and the annual IGLA championships. KC Wave also belongs to the Missouri Valley Swimming (MOVY) and regularly attends swim meets (locally and abroad). There are no "try outs" for KC Wave; swimmers of all skill levels are welcome.
Every year, we compete in 4 to 6 meets a year and host between 4 and 8 practices each month. Our practices are held at the beautiful UMKC facilities, who partners with us by offering reduced rates. This
next year is a particularly big year for KC Wave as we head to the
2008 IGLA meet in DC and hold our own gay swim meet in
September 2008.
At every meet, we take our banner and fun ‘Swim, Toto, Swim’ shirts. We’re looking for your help in making our presence at these meets the best it can be…help us represent Kansas City!
We’re looking for annual sponsorships in the $50 to $250 range to help pay for meet, pool, administrative and other expenses. We have
nonprofit status with Missouri, so your sponsorship dollars will be partly tax deductible. Sponsorship details include:
- $50 to $150 – Logo on our team shirt; recognition on our website; and a ‘Swim, Toto, Swim’ shirt
- $150 to $250 - the above plus your logo on our team banner
